Hi all!
I'm head of tech support for a large school, and myself and my junior engineer are on-site engineers from an IT resources company.
During exam season (May onwards (UK)), it's our role to put out laptops for kids that need them, at the end of the exam collect finished papers on a USB stick, print them off, return them to the kid, then put the laptops away securely once all exams are finished.
My issue is that my office is a 10 minute walk from the exam hall, so when it's time to collect and print the exams (printing is done in a separate room around the corner from the hall), the staggered finishing times mean I'm essentially there for up to an hour and a half, as it's pointless going back to my office in-between prints.
We don't mind preparing the laptops and clearing them away, it's just the time-consuming printing that I believe is a waste of our time (the school spend a fair bit of money one us - I could actually be doing something more useful during this time).
How are exams printed in your school? I'm planning on having a meeting with the Senior Management Team as everyone I've talked to from other schools has said that the invidulators or Exams Officer do the printing. We're getting a new Exams Officer next term - is it reasonable for me to ask for this to be part of their job description?
Any comments or feedback would be appreciated!
