History Classes As Required Courses

Now don't get me wrong, I like History and feel that it is important to teach it, but when I'm majoring in Psychology I don't feel like two courses of American/Texas History should be forcefully counted into my GPA. I'd just like to hear reasons to why I am having to take these courses and perhaps see it from a different prospective.
