Should teacher Evaluations/Observations be scheduled in advance?

I find it strange that teachers can set a specific date and time for when the principal comes in to evaluate you. Logically, wouldn't that mean the teacher would put in the best performance possible during that observation?

I cannot imagine any other jobs that prescribe to a scheduled evaluation. Imagine the line cook who usually never keeps the station clean, never washes hands, etc. Yet, suddenly plays by the rules upon evaluation.

Just because a teacher has a college degree does not mean that he or she is above something like that. There can be many repercussions here.

  • Teacher that normally ignores struggling students.
  • Teacher that normally only hands out worksheets.
  • Teacher that normally does not accommodate for special needs.

What is your take on this?
