Is starting a 26 year old freshman in the January semester a bad idea?

Well I have my GED. And I want to enroll in local CC. And I want to make it count. Time is a tickin, and waiting for next fall to fit in conventionally seems too long. But would it be much wiser to actually start next fall as most tend to do? I don't want to miss out on introductory phases or anything like that. I know a lot of grad students are more prone to take the courses whenever they want but how out of the norm would it be to go completely fresh in the spring(Local CC's spring semester is in the winter). Just starting to understand the whole college thing; would my program of studys classes even be open to teaching during that time? The professor would have to get done teaching their advanced class, then stoop back down to it's beginners! How off am I because that doesn't seem right. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
