How did people write so well in their thesis or dissertations?

I have read quite a few abstracts, thesis, & dissertations while in college & I noticed the writing on those papers are phenomenal. It's way beyond the level of writing I can obtain. Personally I believe a person lower than college level cannot comprehend it. I am a graduate with a bachelor and even I had a time time comprehend what the paper is saying. Of course I can understand the context written since english is my primary language. Do these people take months to write this? Do they get help of some kind?
