I'm a soon to be 12th grader who goes to an IB school. A few days ago, I received a phone call from my aunt’s friend telling me that the school's leadership team has made an agreement to expel me from the school. A letter was then emailed to my aunt the following day regarding the reason which lead them to reach the final decision. All these happened without the school giving me a chance to explain myself.
This was what happened:
During graduation, the school gave out this plague of appreciation for those who have been in school for more than 12 years. They called out 3 people but forgot about these girls called A and B who've been in in the school for 14 years (longer than those called). After graduation, B posted a graduation photo on IG saying that her family and her were disappointed at the school and felt disrespected. When I saw the post, I left a comment saying “fuck school’s name at least are out” which the school have misinterpreted. The school interpreted my comment as my expression towards how I felt about the school and my eagerness to not be in school. However, this is not true. First of all, although I may not seem to show it, I am in fact, very grateful to be in school as it has allow me to meet some of the greatest people whom I can always trust and rely on. I have also met a few teachers whom I am forever blessed to have who never fails to not just help me in terms of academics but also my own well-being such as my family problems and what not. These teachers has been my source of strength and support in and out of school. They have been there for me since the beginning and I am thankful for them. Furthermore, the comment I made was my way of telling B to leave everything behind since she has already graduated. I tend to be a little vulgar at times when I’m conversing with a friend whom I am close with, hence the language.
I’ve been suspended twice in school for skipping class. Wasn’t given a chance to explain myself either.. Also, the second time I was suspended, I didn’t skip class.. I was late for 30 minutes because I was sick and my friend saw me puking in the bathroom but the school still insist that it’s skipping.
Anyways, besides my undesirable behavior, on a brighter note, I guess I can say that I’m an active contributor to the school. I’m the Vice President of my school’s English club and also a part of the debate team. I compete in debate competitions on a monthly basis and never fail to get into the final round. I also started a Global Issues Network Club project which aims to provide complimentary tuition for orphans from all ages.
So yeah, do you think the school made a fair decision?
And any suggestions on what I should do to appeal?
