Why There's No Exams in Some Classes

In college, there were some classes I have attended where there's no finals. I have take a COM 1010 speech class, HIS 1001 global history class, ENG 2100 basic English class, ENG 2150 intermediate English class, and ENG 2800 ancient literature class.

In these classes, the professors were all laid-back except in the ENG 2100 and the COM 1010 classes, making the classes easy to understand. In the english and history classes, the grades are based on essays. The department doesn't see exams necessary but rather look at student's writing skills. The professors require us to use a certain font, font size, spacing, and proper citing. In ENG 2800, the professor uses blogs as it was a hybrid class. For the final assignment, we can write an essay or make a presentation. I choose the presentation as it was easier than to write the essay.

In the history class, the professor was a laid-back one who doesn't give tests, but rather requires us to write three essay and eight homeworks to secure our grade. The essays were essay as I need a minimum of 1500 words per essay. Most of us got B's and one fail it for plagiarism.

In COM 1010, there was only a quiz to test our ability. The class consists of four speeches, we needed to have an outline and use slides. There is a time limit for each speech. The class was easy except for the professor's illegible handwriting. Maybe the department doesn't see exams as important as presentations.
