Need help with an educational model that popped up in my head

my idea is to cut many of the subjects in public education in favor of courses and subjects that teach students how to utilize different technologies and resources to learn for themselves

I.E instead of teaching arts or music in school perhaps they can teach the students how to utilize different easily accessible resources to learn for themselves

The idea behind this is to lessen the cost and time of public education in order to utilize the wealth of resources to teach oneself and make learning something students would take into their own hands and be more specialized on each students needs as they dictate the pace and direction of their own education. The basic fundamentals of educations would still be there like basic maths, reading, writing, etc but many of the courses that they themselves would choose to partake in I.E not everyone would benefit from an art class so the students can choose to teach themselves art if they wish.

The core principles of the model would be Self reliance and Life long learning.

Is there already an existing educational model like that? If not where's a good starting point to kinda get more ideas to support and build upon it?
