So how do we change the dumpster fire that education has become?

I am a university student. Straight As through high school and the first two years of university, burnt out last year and this year and ended each semester with 1-2 classes less than I started out and rough GPAs. I don't think I'm alone when I say that I'm not learning, that I didn't really learn even when I got straight As. University isn't making me more open-minded or smarter or more capable of handling a large workload, it's burning me out.

There are vastly high rates of anxiety and depression in university students across the globe. Many report instances of suicide ideation, and many are no longer around to report it. I loved my major, and I still do, but the workload is impossible. Professors blame the university administrators, the culture of academia, and the administrators blame the professors. Some professors are understanding of burn-out and mental health needs, others act insulted when asked for a little compassion beyond the predetermined set of "accommodations" that's spoon fed to them by the accessibility center.

Why is this okay? Why are we letting this happen?
