Apologies for any formatting issues, I posting on mobile.
I am a student teacher in California. I was admitted to the program I am in using my SAT/ACT/AP scores as proof that I meet Basic Standards Requirements (BSR) for my credential and admittance into the program.
I have just submitted my EdTPA tonight (Yay!) and now the big stress on top of the pandemic and student teaching is applying for jobs.
As mentioned, I did not take the CBEST. My last semester of college was packed, and I was never told it was necessary. My undergrad advisor (it was a pre-credential program for my subject area) made no mention of it. The only question at the time was how to get my score reports (SAT/AP/ACT) to the program. Ultimately, since the program was also a part of my undergrad school, I ended up just being requested to screen shot my school’s test record on my student page and submitting that for BSR.
The issue has now come up in the past few months that many schools request CBEST scores during the hiring process, and I want to know how important those are. Most importantly I want to know if it will affect my ability to be hired. As I understand, the CBEST scores are pretty much meaningless and all that matters is that you’ve passed. I don’t see how it could be such a major issue. I will have a credential, but could the hiring process hit a wall if I don’t have a CBEST score to give?
I can take and pass the test no problem, but the next date isn’t until July. On top of that, the hiring season is starting now, and I have an awesome school I need to apply to by Friday. Oh yeah and there’s a MASSIVE pandemic. I know for a fact Pearson has already postponed some CSET exams.
TL:DR: I haven’t taken the CBEST, but I will be a credentialed teacher. How much does this affect my ability to be hired?
