Should difficult subjects just be taught 3 times in a row?

My three old is getting curious about the world, and when she wants to understand something she asks us to explain it about 5 times.

This made me reflect on difficult subjects I learned in college. I remember feeling like “I have a question, but I don’t know what it is yet,” but the professor moved on too fast. I wonder if one if the best pedagogical skills would be to just teach the same content 3 times in one hour.

Now I’m in a position of teaching (both professionally and at home), and I wonder if there’s been research on this type of teaching?
