I'm halfway through my undergrad, with a duel major in Elementary and Special Education and I'm currently loving it! I've done two semesters now of student teaching, and it's been incredible. I love the kids and the fact that I'm getting to make a difference in their lives. The joy I feel in the classroom is unmeasurable.
BUT I absolutely hate the political nature of schooling in the US. It's horrible. The testing is insane and incredibly developmentally inappropriate. Teachers make so little, and yet hold so much responsibility. We are so under-appreciated and most people treat our jobs like a joke.
I'm really struggling with the fact that I love these kiddos so so much, but don't know that I can live with poor compensation and lack of respect that teachers get. I'm so worried that I just a few years in I won't be able to take it anymore and I will have waisted my education. Advice please!?
