Professors Cancelling Class

In colleges, substitutes are not common as we see in high school. It is not uncommon for professors to cancel class or not schedule class on certain days so the students can do an assignment at home.

The main reasons professors would cancel class is if they are sick or weather situations. This is common during the Fall semesters as it is the flu season. In the early Spring semester, mostly in February, it can still snow, which is inconvenient to professors and students. This semester, one of my Marketing professors was sick and had to cancel class. To make up the lost time, the final quiz was given on the week of the Thanksgiving Day break.

Another reason professors cancel class is due to holidays. This is common on Thanksgiving Day eve. Some professors would want to start traveling on the day or go to shopping if they live near the college. Some students would prefer to start Thanksgiving Day preparations the day before.

The rare reason professor cancel class is that they have something important to do. In my first semester, the US History professor had a speech to attend, so he cancelled the class. In the Art History Survey class, the professor was sick that she had a substitute to avoid having to cancel too much class sessions.
