Career dilemma

I’ve recently been thinking a lot about becoming an elementary classroom teacher. I’m currently in an MAT program, however it is specific to art. I did four years of undergrad for a studio art BFA and now I’m doing a prepracticum internship at a school, but I absolutely love the time I’m spending with kids, and my teaching philosophy is all about trauma informed teaching, SEL, and strong relationships with my students. I just worry that being in the art room where I only see students for 40 minutes/week isn’t the place for me. I feel I could make a greater impact on students if I were to be a classroom teacher that focuses on hands on/artistic learning. What should I do? Is the program I’m almost done with a waste of my time? Will it be transferable to a classroom teacher position even though my degree is specific to the art room? Or will it just be more state required testing that could change my career path?

All suggestions and advice welcome!
