English Practicum Student Needs Help!

If you are an English teacher, please help me out. If you are not, but can help me, then THANK YOU!

I’m currently co-teaching with my colleague on a unit all about research/researching skills with regular 8th graders. I’ll be teaching a week where students will be reading new readings everyday and interact with those readings learning how to annotate correctly, ask good questions, use context clues, elements of fiction, literary devices, etc.

My students will be reading 4 different readings but I really want to take 1 out and have a day where the kids are doing something fun instead of having to pair up again and read a new reading, interact with it by answering questions. They are already doing it Monday-Wednesday and Friday, so I really want to dedicate Thursday with something fun! Unfortunately I suck at being creative so I need help on what I could do?

Here are the learning objectives for the day I’m looking at to change things up: 1. Students will know how to synthesize the connection between the main ideas of multiple texts 2. analyze the historical influences of a variety of texts 3. generate a draft that conveys complex ideas (quick write)

My essential questions: 1. How does understanding the meanings of words help students comprehend written and oral language? 2. How can we use comprehension strategies to become independent readers? 3. How can we make language to be powerful?

My plan for Thursday: Honestly I have been so stressed about this and was going to plan on doing a poster of the readings on Monday-Wednesday and have them think of 1 theme the 2 readings have and have them draw it.. but my idea sucks so I need help on what I could do!

Please and thank you so much 🥺
