I created a "pandemic pod" with two other families for our children for this school year. We are homeschooling our children this year rather than supervising zoom school and we are happy with the results. This is especially true compared to reports from other parents.
This leads my to my question. I suspect that this school year will basically be a waste for most kids, while our children seem to be thriving so far. When school starts back up, we may want our kids to all skip a grade. What should we be doing now to allow this, should we want it? We would also prefer to come at this in a unified way, since this would mean that our kids could skip a grade together with a friend.
So far, I've tried reaching out to the school, but they've been rather hostile. The principal is displeased that we are homeschooling (so less money for the school) and sensibly more focussed on low-SES kids who are struggling this year. A bunch of well-to-do children who were already academically advanced is not a priority for the administration this year. That said, my kids are a priority for me, and the other families in my pod feel the same way.
