I can't figure out why her curriculum has swept the country. Her methodology feels so loosey-goosey and intangible to me (although, to be fair, I haven't had any formal workshops or instruction in The Calkins Method).
That said (and because I just lectured someone yesterday on not complaining if you can't think of anything better to offer), I've justdiscovered The Writing Revolution by Judith Hochman and Natalie Wexler and I'm so excited. Now I just have to figure out how to introduce their ideas to my district.
Anyway, any educators have insight as to why the US seems to obsessed with Calkins?
