Does studying actually help?

As a student at a high ranking high school, I hear a lot of people talking about studying the content we learn and studying for tests. As someone who basically never studies, I don't understand the point. If you understand the content, why would you do the same thing over again? That's not to say I haven't tried. I have tried studying but I never see any results. Without studying, my grades are the same, or even better than those around me, even though they will spend upwards of 2 hours studying per day, but studying doesn't improve my grades at all. If anything, it just makes me more stressed about tests because of how much I build it up in my head. At most I will usually just do a past paper the day before to get a feel for the type of questions. Whereas others act like studying jmproves your grades so much and makes you so much smarter. Can someone explain to me what the point of studying actually is? Have I just done it wrong the few times I tried? My parents always tell me to study harder wheb my grades drop but I really don't see the point
