Sesame Street was launched in 1969 as an experiment to evaluate the idea that children could be educated through the medium of television. The show thus was created based on a curriculum developed by a 100 leading specialists in multiple fields with the primary purpose of providing education to preschoolers. Throughout its 51 seasons, the show evolved to be more inclusive and added characters from different countries and backgrounds, such as autistic children, the Rohingya, and Syrian refugees. The NBER suggests that it's "the largest and least-costly [early childhood] intervention that’s ever been implemented". Check this newsletter to know more.
