I just had a neighbor teacher ask me if the shooting scene in the movie Selma was too much for her kids to see given America's cultural revolution when it comes to addressing the killing of black and brown men.
She's a white teacher of 11th grade Social Studies and worried bout seeming insensitive by sharing this part of the movie. I'm a 12th grade English teacher (African American) and I was so proud of her! We stood in the hallway and talked for almost 15 minutes about her options for showing/not showing, class discussions and so much more!
I'm also making a video on my channel about this very thing soon--
Teachers, thank you for being brave and helping students make sense of an ever-fluctuating world. They need your wisdom and guidance :-)
