Why do we study Maths?

I am a secondary Maths teacher in London, teaching GCSE's mainly.

What is the best response to when a pupil (mainly who doesn't like maths) asks "What's the point?" "When will we ever need this" "Why are we learning this, I will never need it in real life"

I struggle, as some topics you genuinely don't or will not need/use for 'Real Life'?
