[Australia] Is a BA with double major in Librarianship and information Management Worth it?
Hi everyone. I'm 25 and I live in Western Australia. I'm looking to take on a different career path and I'm considering studying a Bachelor of Arts double majoring in Corporate Information Management and Librarianship at Curtin university. Ideally I'd like to pursue a career in information management or as a librarian though I was wondering if I could get the opinion of someone who has studied in the area or has experience in the field. Would those 3 years and degree be worth it in the end?

Switching Positions Within School/District (Community Liaison to School Counselor)
Hello,
Let me start off by saying if this is not in the correct place, please direct me to where I could post this. So I just graduated from Undergrad and I was fortunate enough to get a job in a school district at a middle school where I serve as a Community Liaison. I am taking this school year off from school (as a student) to not only save up and pay for undergrad loans but also to get experience working with school admin, secretaries, teachers, etc. I have already applied for grad school in Educational Counseling at my local state university, as I hope to one day be a School Counselor, hopefully in a High School. The department of counselor education at the grad school offers 'Internship Credentials' to all students that have been admitted to the program. So, if I am admitted into the grad program, I would be allowed to be a School Counselor if I were to get hired. I am currently at a middle school that is expanding from 6-8 grade, to K-8 grade. What this means is that they will be hiring counselors because the amount of students they will be working with will also increase. As I mentioned earlier, it is my first year working in the education/district, but I am trying my best to not only do my job but also create a professional relationship with school admin and specifically the two counselors so that they could write me a letter of recommendation in the future.
Having said that, I have two questions.
1) How likely/common is it for someone to switch positions within the school district that they are already in? I am going from a classified employee to a certificated employee, so that may complicate things.
2) How likely am I to get hired for the counseling job with my 'internship credential'? In previous cases, what difficulties have other teachers/school staff had when trying to get a paid-position/salary job with a 'internship' credential? That is, I will be working as a Counselor in the morning and then going to grad school to get my masters and credential to be a school counselor in the evenings.
Again, I know it's not specifically relevant to teachers, but it is to the education world and specifically to school counselors. Hopefully it does not get deleted as I feel r/education can have a lot of input on this.

Both of these drastic moves were done without the input of parents or teachers. The bulk of parents don't even know this yet, there is very little communication coming home. I will go to the School Committee and plea my case. Will you help me build it?

Looking for a new school management software
Hello all.
I'm working at a new university in South America with a limited budget. Currently we use D2L, however this software is generally despised by the teaching staff. Most of the teachers use Google Classroom, and we're deciding whether or not to re-new D2L for another year. We're looking for a cheaper alternative to manage student records, attendance, and grades. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Is anyone aware of a test to measure prospective private school students' ethics?
Hi,
I've seen a few standardized tests for measuring an applicants personality, but I was wondering if anyone has come across one that deals more with personality traits like empathy, integrity, and truthfulness. At our school, we'd like to measure these characteristics and see how they grow over time. I haven't had much luck finding one yet, but I thought this might be a good place to ask.
Thanks in advance

Is starting a 26 year old freshman in the January semester a bad idea?
Well I have my GED. And I want to enroll in local CC. And I want to make it count. Time is a tickin, and waiting for next fall to fit in conventionally seems too long. But would it be much wiser to actually start next fall as most tend to do? I don't want to miss out on introductory phases or anything like that. I know a lot of grad students are more prone to take the courses whenever they want but how out of the norm would it be to go completely fresh in the spring(Local CC's spring semester is in the winter). Just starting to understand the whole college thing; would my program of studys classes even be open to teaching during that time? The professor would have to get done teaching their advanced class, then stoop back down to it's beginners! How off am I because that doesn't seem right. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I'm asking because a college I attended many years ago will not release my official transcripts due to a financial hold. However, they will not release my unofficial transcript to me because they are only made available to currently enrolled students with student portal access.

Current 11th Grader looking to Make Up Credit for World History Online for Less than $150; Need Help
So long story short; I failed a semester of World History. I now need to makeup the credit for it. I've looked online but so far I've only found courses that are far more than I can afford ranging from ~$380 all the way up to over $1000. Does anyone know of any ways that I can make up credit for a semester of World History online and for $150 or less? Free would be preferred but after seeing what I've seen so far that seems hopelessly optimistic. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I want to study Laws out of my country
Hello! So I want to study laws but I live at Panama. But I want to study laws in US. I've made some research about some great law schools over there where I want to apply. One of the things is that I wasn't that good at school because I was like "whatever". But now I'm worry that the colleges in US are not going to take me. Another thing is that US education is so different than Panamanian education because in US you talk a lot about the issues on the classes and professors interacts with students as if they are at the same level. Also you have a lot of things like Primary School, Secondary School, High School, College and Social Activities... well different stuffs but here on Panama are 6 years at Primary, 6 Years on High School and then 4 years in College and that's it. So I don't feel confident about myself and if I'll be capable to start there because I don't know if will be the same like studying here for Panama admissions than studuing there for United States Admissions. I just want to know like your opinions and what do you think.

As the kids say, "I can't even..."
I can't even handle this job anymore. I'm a special education administrator. It's not a fun job, but I didn't think it would be. Lots of paperwork and IEP meetings and teacher evaluations... But that's fine. It's all part of the job. What shouldn't be part of the job, is being yelled at constantly. I have a student who is out of control. I'm trying to support the teacher by taking him when he is throwing a tantrum. He YELLS in my face for over 30 minutes. He hits other kids. He is seriously out of control. Today parent came in to yell at me because even though she signed consent for me to send his IEP out of district, she refuses to send him. So she just sat and yelled at me for about 30 minutes. When I tell my boss that this parent is refusing, I'm told "too bad, we can't meet his needs". And while I agree with the sentiment, I want to scream a big "F you" to her because damnit it's not like I can force a parent to send their kid somewhere else. I'm so done! This is the second time this week (2 separate families) and I don't think I can be yelled at by one more person. Honestly, if one more teacher yells at me that a kid "can't read" and I'm doing nothing to help them because I won't give them an IEP (because now I'm the keeper of disability labels and I'm in the business of hording them)...I'm going to run into a wall repeatedly until they commit me. If you made it this far, thank you for letting me vent before I walk in my house. I will now go drink a glass of wine, hug my 6 month old and kiss my hubby as he goes off to work for the weekend. I hope you all have a great weekend and you aren't stuck inside grading too many papers.

What were some of the early criticisms of the Higher Education Act of 1965?
I'm writing a paper on the HEA and looking for scholarly articles that discuss criticisms of the bill, specifically those coming in the years immediately following its passage before any revisions or reauthorizations occurred. I can find plenty of articles tackling recent additions to the bill, but relatively few that criticize its initial policies. Even if such articles aren't readily accessible a summation of some of the criticisms levied at the original form of the bill would also be helpful. Thanks in advance
(Excuse this post if it comes off as a lil wordy, I'm in "research paper writing mode" atm)

I want to quit teaching
It's my second year teaching. I was ambivalent about going back for a second year. I decided to go back because I didn't know what else to do, and I regret my decision. I'm so overwhelmed and overworked. I have panic attacks thinking about going to work. I don't want to talk about why I can't do it. I just want to know: what happens if I quit in the middle of the year? I don't care if I lose my license because I don't want to teach again. Can the school sue me if I quit in the middle of the year?
