Can anybody recommend any resources for getting up to speed on understanding the biggest issues in education historically and the biggest issues facing education today?

I would like to learn all about education (history, how we got where we are today, where we are today) but would love some quick help. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate not having to waste time searching when there's such a knowledgeable community right here on /r/education that might be able to help me learn quickly and effectively.
