Politics in Education: a double Edged Blade

I am a student currently studying in an international school based in a southeast asian country. I am not sure what it is like for schools particularly in the west, but from what I have seen in the news and on videos from youtube, students of my generation are being exposed to a lot more current political controversies and topics. Now I myself being a person who enjoys learning and debating about politics am not against an education system introducing relevant political issues, in fact I think students can greatly benefit from being taught different political theories or current political events. Like Religious Studies, teaching politics teaches lessons to students and can mature their thinking process. However, from what I have noticed, schools are veering away from teaching politics, and rather are instilling certain political ideas into students. Not naming or elaborating in any specific topic, but this has and can potentially create a very hostile environment in school; which is extremely counter productive to the learning of all students.

Should politics hinder the learning of students? Is it more important for a student to spend hours protesting for what they believe in or for a student to be able to calculate simple mathematic problems or how to set up a business? Instead of feeding opinions to students, teachers have to instill analytical abilities within students so that in the future students can further understand politics. On that note, many students campaign for certain political ideas, yet (due to their age or lack of information) they do not see the bigger picture. A mislead student is dangerous, and it should the education systems priority that a student should know what they are talking about and know the implications of their ideas.

If there isn't reform in the way schools teach politics, western education will be no different to Saudi funded radical islamic institutions.
