- There is a private Yeshiva in Brooklyn called the Luria academy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqkrsC594kY this school makes learning interested and multi-faceted. Watch the video. All schools should be like this school.
- Every school should have a quality review every 2-3 years. They do this in NYC. Basically a quality review measures things like to what extent does the school ensure engaging, rigorous, and coherent curricula, or maintain a culture of mutual trust and positive attitudes that supports the academic and personal growth of students. Schools can be ranked "undeveloped" "developing" "proficient" and "well developed". If a school is ranked undeveloped or developing, a quality review will be done next year. Here is an example of a quality review report. https://www.nycenet.edu/OA/SchoolReports/2016-17/Quality_Review_2017_M485.pdf
- There is something called Little Medical School. "Through hands-on demonstrations, crafts, and games, children are actively engaged as they explore the world of medicine. Students will discover how the body and organs work, how to use medical instruments, administer first aid and even tie knots like a real surgeon." https://www.littlemedicalschool.com/curriculum-and-programs For instance, schools can buy those disposable $2 stethoscopes and have kids listen to their own hearts. Kids can use x-ray films, learn about medicine and how the human body works.
- Students should learn another language in elementary school. I am bilingual (English and Russian) and being bilingual is a huge advantage.
- There should be a class in high school teaching students how to write resumes, practice job interviews, filling out tax forms, etc.
- High schools should have career exploration. For example have offices in the school and give students office-tasks. Have students try out technology like automotive technology, etc. At least students will graduate with a better idea of what they want to do. There is a school in Brooklyn that opened up a mock CVS. The "customers" use play money and the products are returned to the shelves after purchase. http://www.news12.com/story/35190147/mock-cvs-opens-at-brooklyn-transition-center Unfortunately this is a special ed school, so it's only accessible to disabled kids. I think every high school should do this.
- The curriculum should be designed so it is accessible to autistic kids and kids with learning differences. Instead of forcing disabled kids to act "normal", accept them as who they are and embrace what they have to bring to the classroom.
- All teachers should also be trained how to accommodate different disabilities (i.e. students who use a communication device) and how different disabilities can impact students in the classroom, like a student with selective mutism being unable to ask to go to the bathroom.
- Make sure schools are teaching kids. If a 10th grade student born and growing up in the US is reading at a 2nd grade level, it's the schools fault. Unless a student has an intellectual disability, there is no reason they cannot do grade level work.
