Your first two years of teaching, what do you wish you had known?

So it seems like (at least in my area) that teaching credential programs are getting shorter and more shallow. So I'm attempting to write a short book, like a little companion for new teachers with advice, guidance, and general nuggets that by all rights they should have received before they began teaching.

So I'd like to ask you, what do you wish you had known your first two years? What do you wish someone had told you? What did you have to work out on your own that you would like to pass on?

It could be related to anything; curriculum, behavior management, interacting with your principal, self-care. Thank you for your time.
