Our son (10y/o, 5th grade) came home with a really fancy letter on heavy card stock today saying he was nominated to attend the Junior National Young Leader’s Conference this summer. He was beaming with pride and saying he was one of only 4 people in his grade at his school that were invited to the program.
It’s a little pricey, at around $2,300 for tuition (not including airfare there and back, we live in South Texas, conference is in Washington DC).
Envision EMI is the for-profit company responsible for the conference.
It sounds like an expensive week long summer camp. Some of the stuff I’ve read online say it’s good, and some things have said it’s a rip-off. They have an A+ rating with the BBB, but some of the 47 lodged complaints are a little discerning.
Our other concern is having our 10 year old son travel unaccompanied out of state via air travel, something he has never done before, or ever had to do before.
Does anybody know anything more about the conference? And what are your opinions on it? I tried searching reddit to see if a thread has already been created asking about this but I couldn’t find anything.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
