I create escape room unit review activities for my 12th grade English students. We utilize a google form to access riddles that lead to assignments hidden in the room. Passcodes are earned from collaboratively completing review asssignments. Then, passcodes are entered into the form to access the next riddle and eventually to escape Salem witch trials, medieval Europe, etc.
I've hit a creative brick wall, however, and need help coming up with novel ideas. Below are my current escape room go-to activities. Each is found by solving an easy riddle like, "Flee from Medieval Europe/ before a flea decides to bite./ You'll be safe if you're a king/ but nothing is promised to a _____. Find a book with the missing word in the title."
-
Crossword puzzle to review history of the era. Unscramble highlighted boxes for passcode.
-
QR code to online non-fiction paired text to use in answering 5 multiple choice analysis questions on a text from the unit. The answers are the passcode.
-
Match the literary device to the example from text manipulative. The order is the passcode.
-
In-depth theme questions students for which synthesize ideas and answer in a paragraph. The answer, if approved by me, earns a passcode.
They seem simple, but usually take an entire 90 minute block if as rigorous as English IV should be.
All ideas are welcomed!
