from one country to another: Taiwanese High school vs American high school.

Apologies if the format of this post looks strange. I'm using voice to text on my mobile device.

Recently I had the pleasure of going to a friend's High School reunion here in Taiwan. I am an American of European descent. I'll get back to the high school reunion in just a moment but I'll preface this By saying Kindergarten primary school middle school and high school in this country all require tuition to be paid by the parents even if it is a public school. I also grew up in a Suburban City in the Midwest.

The high school that my friend attended specialized in Art and Design. I was amazed by everything that I saw: from your general paintings to billboard ad Design Concepts, to fashion and clothing design. There were also alternate reality smartphone apps, and full-blown mobile games and desktop PC games that although we're not high in quality were functioning properly.

By comparison, for my senior year of high school I was enrolled in a special program that allowed me to study my morning classes at high school and then take classes at a different school, a votech, nearby. The class was called game design and 3D animation, but with all of the content that we had studied I strongly felt as though it should have been named Game Theory and 3D design. Nobody from that class, to the best of my knowledge, graduated and went to work for a game development company. no one in that class to the best of my knowledge even put anything in a real game even as a modification file. The best thing we saw in that class however was some real 3D art. Basically the same stuff you would see in Toy Story for A Bug's Life for example.

Are there any such opportunities that exist for American high schoolers? Or are these sorts of courses only available to kids that have wealthy parents and want to go to a private high school?
