How to teach a cognitively impaired student why they can't say the N word?

I have a 13 year old (with cognitive disability that manifests as immaturity, ADHD, OCD...) who has just discovered the N word. He has no idea what it means. I believe he was aware it was a "bad" word - as he whispered it (then giggled).

How do I teach him it's history in a respectful way so he can understand the gravity of the act?
