What if we taught social skills in K-12 as if it were just as important as math, reading, writing, and science? Could it contribute higher success rates in all areas of life?
If people were raised/taught to be more aware of their intrapersonal and interpersonal skills, they may learn how cope, in more meaningful way, with the internal and external conflicts that arise on a daily basis. These consistent struggles of a maladjusted individual can lead to dire straits.
If you think about these ideas in these terms, it becomes disinclining to blame the individual for the societal crime, and inclining to look at our society’s failures to support the emotionally/mentally distressed.
After all, “it takes a village...”
