Should I let my son stay home from school?

If my kid wants to take a day off from school, should I let him? There's nothing at school going on or any reason for avoiding. He just wants a day off. I'm all about discipline, and to me; breaking that schedule is not discipline. Am I making a mistake? How many days of school should I let him miss per year?
