Our district recently cut the hours of our IAs (they don’t call/recruit them as paraprofessionals) to 7hrs/day, and they are therefore denied benefits. Even though these people work from ~8 to ~3, they cannot qualify for full time benefits. Meanwhile the same district is breaking IEP laws (not enough IAs in collaborative classrooms to address each student’s IEP required minutes). Union is aware and doing nothing...is this common across the country?
