The college admissions process largely bases enrollment decisions on standardized testing scores alongside GPA. The concept of these admissions requirements hypothesizes that above-average statistics in both areas when compared to the total population of students accurately identify their future academic success. Although this relationship between higher scores and higher performance does correlate for the most part, in the cases of many immigrant and international students, this correlation is not always accurate. Many brilliant students look to attend college abroad who excel academically and earn a high GPA that also struggle with language-test scores. These students find themselves unfavorable in the admissions process, as the universities accepting international students look to reduce the cost of international students who are NOT proficient, while also capitalizing on the value of international students who ARE proficient in the desired language. Relying on these language tests for immigrant and international students is very complicated, as learning a language does not fully constitute scholastic achievement. There are many facets of a student’s academic success that does not relate to language learning, such as study habits, motivation, and the time to get a degree. Do any of you face this problem?
