Hi!
I am currently having my first gap of two. Initially, I planned to only have one gap year, but since I still do not know what to study, I think it will be best to have another gap year where I hopefully can travel as well. I am not really familiar with the diversity of education you can study which is why I am writing this post - I am going to write some things that I am interested in, and hopefully, you guys could guide me with an education/study that can somewhat fulfill that.
You know these documentaries where there is a reporter sent to other countries trying to shed light upon what's currently happening there and trying to be the voice for people who, unfortunately, do not have it. Or shed light upon controversial subjects, that don't necessarily rest well with people, but nevertheless need to be elucidated. I´ve always been interested in that. However, I don't want to be that reporter who is only reporting without doing research themself - I want to observe, experiment, and research the given subject. In other words, I want to dig my fingers in my work.
- If I want to do this, do I need to study Journalism? or can I do that by studying something else? I have high grades, however since getting in Journalism where I live is by multiple tests, I do not know if I´ll get in (I´m from southern Scandinavia). But I plan on studying in Canada which is a thing/ordeal for another day.
Furthermore, I have always been fascinated with human behaviorism. Especially with what makes people do certain things in certain situations - example with war. How soldiers tend to become more animalistic and subside their morals, and if that means that they have become more true with their "inner" sense (which Freudian calls id). I am not judging soldiers, just fascinated by the ordeal.
However, I have also had a fascination with how norms, values, and morals are socially constructed by the majority’s view on how the given norm etc should be, however in theory that doesn’t necessarily make it "ethically correct". Does that make sense? I have a hard time explaining all this. Again I want my work/job to be something where I am going to research a given subject.
- If I want to do this, do I need to study psychology? or is it anthropology? If any of you guys are studying these, especially anthropology could you elaborate on how the study is, and what it essentially is?
I do plan on talking with an education counselor (i forgot the right term for it), so they could guide me further into what type of study I should pick.
I sincerely hope that anyone of you guys could help me
