Several years ago I read a book, and although I usually keep meticulous notes on every book I read, I failed to do so this time and cannot locate the book or the study it referenced. Here's what I remember:
A global study performed over several decades revealed that a few factors correlated with student success. The positive correlations I remember are:
- parents reading to children when they are young
- adults having deep conversations with children often
- adults reading for pleasure in the home (not to the children)
It was also interesting that they found a negative correlation between parents observing their children's sporting events and student success, likely due to this being the only time they spent together.
I probably have some of the details wrong in my mind, but would love to know which book/study made these claims. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks in advance!
