L.A. Unified estimates tens of thousands of students are missing from back-to-school rosters

Looks like LA Public Schools have lost 20,000 students from last year.

Most concerning line:

The district’s K-12 enrollment, which was about 430,000 last year, has been on a marked decline and is projected to plunge by nearly 30% over the next decade.

Personal prediction: If we do see a decline in enrollment of 30%, we will NOT see a reduction of budget by 30%. I will be surprised if there was a budgetary reduction of even 1/3rd of the decline. Though I will NOT be surprised if we instead see merely a reduction in the projected rate of growth (i.e. if projected to grow 4% per year and only grows 1% per year) which they'll call a "cut". But despite that, the majority of that surplus will not go to teachers, but instead to various administrators.
