I dont know .. seems like our universities needs a change

To be honest the current university curriculum in almost every universities seems to be outdated and the thing is that the professors are not willing to change the way of their teaching and keeps sticking to the legacy models . In my experience all of our teachers follow the old model imposing their ideas on students and not willing to change even the tiniest bit in their approach towards teaching or the curriculum . What if we begin an initiative where students itself learns some topic of their interests relevant in their field i.e for example one student might be knowledgeable in Digital forensics and the other might be more into penetration testing .What if they share this knowledge in ways which their peers will understand as it is easier for students to get along well and motivate each other . The teacher would act as a guide to keep them on track and check their progress often providing them with supplements . I honestly think this can make college life much more interesting and fun to learn . What do you guys think

Career change

I am currently a teacher at a SEMH school. If I wanted to change career into a special needs occupational therapist, would I need to go back to uni to complete another degree, or is there a way I can transfer my skills/degree into a shorter and less expensive course that could support me to become an OT?

Shift to teaching, paths and advice

Hello guys,

I used to work in marketing for more than 5 years, and I would like to explore teaching. I am from Portugal, BsC in Marketing, 30 years old, currently living in NL and have freedom to travel wherever.

My options: — Sociology/Psychology/History - Premaster + master + master in education = 2,5 years —English and Spanish teaching - BsC in Education in teaching these languages - 4 years

I would like to ask your sincere advice and tips for making this big transition. Also for people that have shifted how did it feel, and what would u do differently?

Thanks a lot for your sharing, I really appreciate!

Wish u a beautiful weekend!

If I work on a paper for 12 hours, how many pages should that be?

I’m taking a graduate level class where work is “student lead” so we are able to come up with our own ideas for final projects. We don’t have any sort of rubric so I’m flying by the seat of my pants.

Our professor expressed that she wants us to spend a total of 12 hours on our final projects and if we do less than that we probably won’t get a good grade.

However, I’m a slow reader and a slow writer so I have absolutely no idea how long this paper needs to be. For me, 6-10 pages in 12 hours is my max. But then I have other people telling me this is not enough. Advice?

UPDATE to my post: Professor obsessed with cheating has me paranoid

Link to OP: Professor obsessed with cheating has me paranoid. : r/education

First off, I'd love to thank everyone who responded and either:

a. Reassured me

or

b. Accused me of cheating

Both were needed for my frame of mind at the time, as some provided some much needed comic relief for me and others made me realize: this dude isn't out to get me, he is just seriously concerned about the integrity of his class.

Having multiple degrees, I've worked on a stupid amount of insanely stupid group projects and I started to think about the number of times me and other students have had to ask others if they're using AI for their portion in recent years because it was insanely obvious.

Ole dude takes his damn sweet time grading shit but I got all A marks.

I'm only halfway through so I don't know the final outcome but I've been breathing a little easier.

I went against some of the better advice and wrote a paper right before it was due and turned it in as-is. I checked over it once for insanely obvious mistakes but was more concerned with it appearing AI generated.

His feedback? I quote this directly:

Pretty good writing; pretty good answers; pretty good use of your sources.

My grade? 97.5, mistakes be damned. Guess he was just glad to know I wrote my own paper.

I try not to use my schizophrenia as a crutch and try to act as if I'm as 'normal' as possible but it really does appear the paranoid side of me got the best of me. I'd very much like to thank everyone for responding, regardless of how positive or negative, as it convinced me to not drop the class and regardless of if I pass, I am going to pass without being accused of cheating.

Should report cards include separate grades for performance and interest in each subject?

Sometimes, students perform well in subjects they don’t find interesting. Other times, they struggle in subjects they are genuinely passionate about.

Untangling performance and interest on report cards could benefit both students and parents — particularly when it comes to career planning.

I scored 840 on my SAT. Here’s why THAT number didn’t define me.

(Had to repost because I had a type in the title.)

When I scored an 840 on the SAT, I thought my future was over. Surrounded by classmates with 1200+ scores, I questioned if I was smart enough for college. But over time, I realized that one test score doesn’t define your worth. Through persistence and self-belief, I went on to earn multiple degrees.

I share my full story of resilience and overcoming self-doubt on my podcast, Reeves Reflection. If you’re doubting yourself because of a test score or setback, remember: success is about the journey, not a single moment.

College hates ChatGPT/AI because it exposes outdated teaching methods

The way higher education is structured limits true learning. Instead of becoming a society of free thinkers and innovators, we've become reliant on standardized testing and memorization. If you want to succeed in college the way it is today and has been for decades, become a great regurgitator.

Learn the vocabulary, cite the sources, tell Sarah you liked her post, take the test: A+

There's been this underlying uneasiness that something needs to change with our educational system. I think if you asked most people, "kids are critically thinking less" would not be an unpopular opinion - and that's not because of AI, this has been the trend for a long time.

Now, we have machine learning and language models that do repetitive and tedious tasks quite well. Suddenly, every student has the ability to regurgitate information at their finger tips, in an effortless fashion. Teachers, professors, faculty are scrambling because this underlying problem with our educational system is now being spotlighted as a glaring problem in our society and they're pointing at AI as if that's the issue.

In a panic, universities are attempting to block this new technology by using faulty AI detectors, plagiarism detectors that detect student names, and having students sign legal documents promising they won't use ChatGPT.

So instead of a mediocre educational situation, we now have tons of friction and hoops students have to go through just to learn nothing.

Second Bachelors degree

(28F) I earned a bachelors in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. I’m not making excuses, but I was forced to go to college (which I’m glad I did) and had no idea what I wanted to do, nor did I care.

10 years later, I am getting irritated with the field that my degree has afforded me. I am not interested in continuing my studies in Psychology as a career path, but would like to get a higher education that would give me a better aim for where I’d like to go career wise.

My question: should I look into getting another bachelors and start from the ground up, or should I go for a masters in an unrelated field? My worry about moving forward with a Masters is that a BS in Psych might make me less desirable for positions as it would show that I did not gain my foundational collegiate education in whatever new field I decide on. Please help.

Is the College System Failing Us? Let’s Discuss! 🚨

I can’t shake the feeling that college just isn’t preparing us for the real world. After years of classes, exams, and assignments, many of us still feel unprepared to secure a meaningful job. And let’s be honest, I’m not the only one feeling this way.

Here’s the problem: the job market is brutal, unemployment is on the rise, and most graduates leave college without the skills they actually need to thrive. Our education system is stuck in the past—outdated syllabi, an overemphasis on rote learning, and exams that don’t really test practical knowledge. None of this helps when it’s time to ace an interview or tackle real-world challenges.

On top of that, creativity and hands-on learning are practically non-existent in most colleges. There's little focus on practical skills, internships, or even fostering critical thinking. How are we supposed to succeed when the system doesn’t prepare us for life after graduation?

Do you think online courses, certifications, or other alternative learning methods could fill the gap?
Have you faced similar struggles, and if so, how are you dealing with them?

Learning math on a chromebook is the dumbest thing

If you want to have every other class taught using the chromebook, that's fine. DOING THAT WITH MATH MAKES NO SENSE. Oh this problem requires me to reference the unit circle? Sure let me scroll 10 pages back and wait 2 minutes for the page to load (onenote). I fall behind in the lesson because I am trying to draw graphs and lines properly on the screen, but I have to redo it 10 times. Trying to write out mathematical notes with either a touchpad or my finger is so difficult and messy. I have to go home and waste my own ink, printing out 20+ page packets so I can actually learn. I don't know how anyone else is learning. I also frequently forget to print out the packet in advance, so I have to go home as teach myself everything since I didn't learn anything in class using the chromebook. That's what I'm doing right now so yeah I had to rant.

I made an app that provides you with specific educational video segments whenever you ask it a question, highlighting only the part you're interested into.

There are tons of 1h+ lectures on YouTube that provide so much useful knowledge, but most people will not make it past the 10 minutes mark...
The same applies for podcasts.

This is why I made this app - notclass; to help students find the specific moments they need from some of the best lectures online.

As a student, I found it to be a big time-saver whenever I have a specific physics question I need answering.

Any Indian who have given SAT with pcb for 11th and 12th pursuing med undergrad or med school?

Hello reddit, I recently found out about SAT exam and i have taken pcb as my subject for 11th. My relative suggested this option and I preffer it. I know that i can crack SAT with my 10th's maths knowledge and i can grind 11th maths for SAT, but i heard Maths in 11th and 12th is compulsory for undergrad. Is it necessary? I still have my 12th left so i can opt maths in 12th but will it work? Like i dropped maths for 11th. I can study everything by myself so it won't be an issue and i am good in maths. Will it work if i just dont take maths or do i need to repeat my 11th? Or can i just take calculus classes as im in undergrad?

Is it a red flag if more than 50% of the school is high honor roll

High honor roll was just posted. More than 50% of each grade made it. Criteria 95% average no grade under 80.

add in regular honor roll 90% average nothing under 80 and almost 70% of the seniors are on the honor roll.

is the grading too lenient the teachers that great, the kids that smart? What. My daughter has always been high honor roll. She isn’t even top 10% of her class.

K-12 clubs/programs for civic engagement or social justice

Im concerned about education. The book bans and general interest in restricting content at a federal level is really concerning. Students need to learn critical thinking and have access to information on a variety of topics.

This got me thinking: if the schools can’t teach certain topics, then we need to provide that education elsewhere. We need programs or clubs that students can voluntarily join to learn about a variety of inclusive topics. In addition, they need to learn how to see how policies impact their communities and how they can help to problem solve.

Does anyone know of any clubs or programs like this? I’d like to get involved and don’t want to reinvent the wheel if it already exists. If this doesn’t exist, is there truly a need or interest?

Compared to high school, study groups are essentially social meetings in colleges

We would definitely take study groups very serious in high school because it would mean project tests or something vital but compared to colleges, its become socializing meetings for laughs and rarely do students have serious academic discussions going on. What's the issues here? seen it in your respective colleges?

Comics for Learning Experience Design

As a long-time fan of comics and graphic novels, I’m always drawing inspiration from this field to shape my approach to design. While it’s often challenging to fully apply these techniques due to limited resources and time, there’s something about the narrative techniques, pacing, and visual storytelling in comics that I’m convinced could make our learning experience designs so much richer and engaging.

I’ve started putting together a guide that explores the field alognside ways we can bring strategies from comics into our learning experience design. I’ve combed through my (constantly growing) collection of graphic novels and narratives – picked up from every second-hand shop, library sale, online bargains, and free box I stumble upon – to share examples that highlight things like storytelling flow, character creation and use, and layout strategies, in the context of learning.

This guide is still a work in progress, and I plan to keep adding to it as I find more relevant strategies and resources. But I thought I’d share it here and ask you:

  • Are you using graphic narratives in your classes?
  • Anything else you’d like to see covered in the guide?
  • Do you have any favorite comics / links / graphic novels about education that could make a great case study?

I’d love to hear any thoughts or ideas to keep improving this guide.

Hope you enjoy!

To that reddit who suggested a Homeroom game to me days ago

I just wanna say a BIG THANKS to the redditor who posted about this game called Escape Team a few days ago!! I actually don’t know where the subreddit is but I’m sure it was a teaching sub. They said it’s great for playing in groups of kids, and they get to exercise their creative thinking through challenges

So the kids are all tech-savvy in this day and age, but this game reminded me alot of the board games. Not only the get to play with the game in the phone but they actually focus more on the physical game itself. They got to cut the shapes and fold stuff. Great for team collaboration like what that OP said.

Eitherway this is just a suggestion but it’s a great game for bonding especially these kids are practicing with listening to each other 😁 Homeroom is more fun now!!

P.S I can’t attach an attachment of the playthrough 🥹

My AAS Degree, please read and help me figure this out

Ok, so I have as AAS Degree and my course study was in Criminal Justice.

I received/graduated in 2009 from and got this degree from one of those for profit schools in California that closed down for good in 2015.

I checked with the Department of Education to verify the validity of my degree and they said since I graduated in 2009 and was awarded the degree before the school closed down the degree is still considered valid and credible due to the schools accreditation at the time.

Years later, I was packing to move and my degree itself was in an old backback and sadly my vehicle was broken into and the bag stolen. Physical degree itself gone for good. However, I was able to obtain copies of my transcripts for my own records to show that I did indeed receive the degree.

Now, I know that an AAS Degree is not super fancy but my concern is, I received this degree without a HS Diploma or GED.

My other concern is future employment. Ive had decent paying jobs with benefits in the past, but im worried that I wont be able to find something better due to not having a HS Diploma or GED.

In the education section of jobs I have applied for I always put down that my highest level of education is an AA Degree. Although, I believe in being honest, when asked if I have a HSD or GED I say no. Then if Im lucky to get the interview I go into more detail regarding my education.

So, should I even bother to mention that I have no GED or HSD? Is my AA better than an HSD/GED? I know now a days some employers wont even bother to see if you graduated HS or not or have a GED.

Ive been told my some that I seem smart and articulate with a professional demeanor and good work ethic and that my education level shouldn’t matter that much since I am capable.

What should I do? Am I worrying too much? Im trying to be positive about my future prospects.

P.S, Im also a married father/family man.

The Impact of AI Companions on the Future of Education

"AI companions are beginning to play a role in education, both as personal tutors and as learning partners in classrooms. These AI-powered assistants can provide students with tailored learning experiences, helping to reinforce concepts, explain challenging topics, and track progress in real-time. This personalized support is particularly beneficial for students with unique learning needs.

In the classroom, AI companions can offer extra practice and encouragement, providing additional help outside of teacher-led instruction. They can adapt to each student’s pace, allowing for self-directed learning and reducing anxiety in subjects students might struggle with. This approach encourages a more confident, engaged learning experience.

Outside the classroom, students can use AI companions as study aids, reviewing lessons and practicing new skills. The added flexibility of these digital tutors allows students to learn at their own pace, making education more accessible and inclusive. As AI companions evolve, they may become an invaluable part of the education system, assisting both teachers and students in personalized learning."

Homeschooling curriculum advice

I'm looking for advice on where I can start looking to gather materials to homeschooling my son. I'm a former teacher but it's been a long time and I taught high-school, my son is elementary school. Can anyone point me in the best direction for curriculum to keep him on track? I'm looking to gather as many materials as I can now before things start getting censored or everything is pro propaganda. Looking for content that would align with NYS standards. My son is very bright and loves to learn, I want to make sure he had the continued right to a quality education and that his passion for learning isn't hindered in any way. Hopefully he can continue with public school, but I'd rather be prepared just in case. Thank you for any and all input on sources!

Graduating high school late

So I dropped out for 2 years for personal reasons. And once I'll be able to take my junior year, I'll be 18 by then. A lot of people have been telling me to take the 2 years to graduate high school. But I'm not sure if that's the wisest choice. Should I just drop out for good and get my GED? Otherwise, are there any other ways that I can graduate high school faster?

What books to buy?

With the prospect of the DOE shutting down and trumps statement on which subjects will be taught in school (and which he didn’t endorse teaching, such as history), I want to stock up on some texts / resources to have for my children (ages 5months, 4, and 6). My goal is to have everything on hand to provide them with an unbiased, fact based education if their school system isn’t continuing to do this in the coming years.

What text books, workbooks, etc should I have? I’m thinking things on science, American and world history, the arts, etc. hit me with the best resources, please!

What's Most Likely to Happen with the DOE

Hey all-

My wife is a teacher at a Title 1 school and like many of you, I've been worried about the DOE under the upcoming administration. This article does a good job at explaining what is actually most likely to happen:

https://www.edweek.org/policy-politics/opinion-whats-really-at-stake-for-education-in-this-election/2024/11

In short, Trump can't magically make the DOE dissappear. It would take the house majority plus 60 seats in the senate. Even if the DOE does dissappear, Title 1 funding and other funding administered by the DOE doesn't go away. While Republicans can certainly try (and I'm not saying they won't) to get away with a broader disassembling of public education, it wouldn't be as easy as Trump simply making a decision.

Hope this helps!

Finishing my teaching degree if DOE shuts down?

I finish my teaching degree next December, & currently work as a Special Ed Para in a City school in Virginia. I haven't been able to sleep for the past week because I don't know if I'll be able to finish my degree (as I rely on FAFSA & schools existing to to do my student teaching). Would I just put myself into debt trying to finish my degree, without any fucking oversight from the DOE on loan forbearance? Would finishing my degree even be possible? Does getting rid of the Federal DOE affect State DOEs? I'm terrified. I don't have family to fall back on, & as part of this I've supported myself for years working full time & take coursework, & I don't really have savings either. I started looking at Canadian jobs & they want teachers, but you have to have at least taught for a year prior.

should i take pre-calc?

not sure if this is the right subreddit but oh well. i’m in grade 10 (sophomore) and i’m actually really stressed about this. i did not do well in math last year, so i was not recommended to take pre-calc. but recently one of my friends told me his brother isn’t able to go to university because he didn’t take pre-calculus in highschool, so now he has to upgrade before going to university.

i did not know this was a thing, and i’m not sure if it’s 100% true. i wanna go to university, but i don’t where. i don’t even know what i wanna do when i’m older which isn’t helpful in this situation.

so what i’m asking here is 1.) is it true you have to take pre-calc to get into university? and 2.) should i sign up for a pre-calc course now, so i don’t have to redo it later down the road?

i just wanna really point out i didn’t do well in math lol, and that’s where i struggle the most. i’ve struggled with it my entire life, i wanna have a good career and go to university, that’s why i’m debating whether it’s worth it or not. a second opinion would be extremely valuable to me right now! sorry if this is all over the place and isn’t very clear, 😓

Title 1 School Future After DoE Shut Down

Does anyone know what will happen to Title 1 schools if the Dept Of Education shuts down? My daughter (and my sons before her) go to a really great school in Texas that was opened with a Title 1 Grant. They only accept kids at or above grade level and teach advanced subjects, giving them a huge head start when going into middle school (as well as a culture shock into the behavior of children who weren't able to attend such a school).

We're a small community, where would the funds to run the school come from? Could anyone speculate on whether it would find state funding or possibly be absorbed into the other schools? And what time of the year does that funding renew? I would be terribly upset if we lost our school.

Styles of education

Help me to index and summarize some unique approaches to education? I’m a young adult planning to raise a few chitlins in the next 5ish years. I’ve always gone about myself in out of the box ways based more on what makes sense to me than what already exists. My mom opened schools that worked in ways that made sense to her for my sister and I as we came up from kindergarten through high school. I’m passionate outside of the educational field but very much so intend to raise beings in a less standardized way. I’ve been interested in Waldorf, charter, homeschool options. Would you please share any thoughts that might broaden my awareness to out of the box styles of education that exist today? Thank you :)

Crazy Idea: Free Housing for Teachers Through ADUs on School Property

I came up with an idea that could help tackle teacher shortages, especially in areas with high living costs. What if school districts built small accessory dwelling units (ADUs) on school property and offered them as free or low-cost housing for teachers? This could attract and retain more teachers in areas where budgets don’t allow for big pay raises. Teachers would save on housing costs, reduce commute times, and feel more connected to the school community. Has anyone seen something like this done before or have thoughts on how feasible it could be?

Milton's Tractate of Education

Let me preface this by stating that I am not an educator, just someone currently interested in the general thoughts on this piece of literature. As I have been reading through the Harvard collection, I have reached The Tractate of Education by Milton. After finishing it, I was wondering what the current thoughts of it were and how we have changed. That said, here are my questions:

  • What are your overall thoughts on Milton's tractate?
  • How does his ideas on education influence the current day?
  • What needs improvements in his understanding of education?
  • What do you think he got right?
  • Would you recommend this as a way for schools to operate, if so what parts would you include or remove.

Seeking Feedback: Help Shape the Future of EdTech! 🚀

I'm working on a project in the educational technology space, and I am looking to get insights from the community to better understand the market, identify key competitors, and, most importantly, learn directly from the people who’d be using platforms —students, parents, and teachers. If you're passionate about EdTech or just curious, I would love to hear your thoughts! I am not sure if I am allowed to send you a link so won't do so.

Here's what I am exploring:

  • Detailed Market Analysis: I am examining trends in educational technology, including growth areas and potential challenges. If you're someone who uses (or wants to use) EdTech tools, what changes or innovations are you hoping to see?
  • Competitor Overview: I am mapping out the key players in EdTech and analyzing their strengths, weaknesses, and positioning. Are there certain platforms you love or dislike? What features or aspects make or break them for you?
  • User Insights: This is where we need your help the most! We’re gathering feedback from students, parents, and teachers to understand your needs, preferences, and pain points with current learning tools. Your input will directly influence how we develop our platform! We’ll be conducting surveys, focus groups, and even one-on-one interviews to make sure we get it right.

If you’re interested in contributing or simply want to stay in the loop, drop a comment or DM me. Let’s shape the future of learning together! 🌍💡

Education with an interdisciplinary approach

Education is about using all we have available to teach the little ones about future life challenges which they can tackle easily. I have used some Usbourne books together with Lego pieces to teach my son about nature, geography and a few basic human anthropology. He can then integrate the knowledge into further reasoning by himself. I am currently building different exercises from different subjects we studied separately to help him understand better future school challenges he will have. And it’s amazing how his mind sees now further steps in building a better way for the future.

is there a big problem with the Education in your countries?

from my observations, I know the education is a very big problems in many countries.

firstly, it is in regard to the teachers. They actually don't have the right methods to effectively teach their students. take the English teachers in my countries for example, most of them can't speak and listen English. so how can they impart the real education to the students. For other subjects, they can't give the students right guidance.

to name a few, they only care how long their students learn each day. although they ask their students to copy down the questions they can't solve the first time, they don't or can't teach them how they should deal with them. what extent should they go. so most of the students in my country study for more than 14 hours a day, yet they still can't achieve good results.

i wrote too much, i'll just leave it at that.

Advice: For inconsistent expectations from admin

August/Pre-planning: principal tells the teachers that it is admin's job to police dress code, and he does not want us to have any confrontations that take away from instruction regarding dress code

August/Open house: principal tells parents he will "not rule with an iron fist"

September: Principal starts to crack down on dress code and enforce a no hoodies/no hats policy. Has a coach threaten a student. Very rude and militant all-around.

October: A parent yells at principal for being rude to him and his child regarding no hats/hoodies

November: Principal starts verbal reprimands on teachers who do not enforce the hats/hoodies policy. Blames teachers for creating "safe havens" for students and allowing them to get away with "breaking the rules". Instructs teachers to email the dean if students break rules.

November: students look up dress code policy in the Student Code of Conduct to find no mention of hats or hoodies, but a statement that "headwear cannot cover the face". Hats and hoodies are not part of the dress code policy.

What step does the teacher take next? Do they have confrontations, do they contact the dean with a list of 20+ students wearing hats or hoodies during the day, do the address it with the principal directly?

And why is this the teacher's problem?

Why School and Universities need Student Information System, LMS, CRM for complete Education Management?

Schools and universities benefit significantly from a comprehensive Student Information System (SIS), Learning Management System (LMS), and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) because these tools streamline various facets of education management, from student records to communication and performance tracking. Here's a brief breakdown:

  1. Student Management:
    • SIS maintains and organizes student data such as demographics, enrollment status, academic history, and personal details, making data easily accessible for staff and teachers.
  2. Attendance Tracking:
    • SIS and LMS help automate attendance, allowing teachers to track and record student presence in classes, detect trends in absenteeism, and intervene early if needed.
  3. Grading and Assessment:
    • LMS allows for seamless grading and assessment management, where teachers can create, assign, and grade assignments and exams. Students can see their progress in real-time, enhancing transparency and accountability.
  4. Quizzes, Tests, and Assignments:
    • LMS provides a platform to create and administer quizzes and tests, often with automated grading for multiple-choice formats. This makes it easy to measure and analyze student performance at regular intervals.
  5. Parent-Teacher-Student Communication:
    • CRM and SIS facilitate communication between teachers, parents, and students, enabling progress updates, alerts for attendance or academic concerns, and scheduling parent-teacher meetings. This creates a well-rounded support system for the student.
  6. Curriculum and Content Delivery:
    • LMS centralizes learning materials, schedules, and resources, making it easy for students to access content anytime, fostering a blended learning environment that accommodates different learning paces and styles.
  7. Analytics and Reporting:
    • All three systems provide insights on academic performance, attendance patterns, and engagement levels, helping educators identify at-risk students, evaluate teaching effectiveness, and refine curriculum as needed.

That's why we have built Classe365 - Complete Education Management System for Schools, Universities and Academies.

Our comprehensive software suite empowers educational institutions to streamline their entire administrative process. From capturing leads and managing enrollments through our CRM and admissions modules to efficiently enrolling students into the Student Information System, administrators can manage daily tasks like attendance, grading, scheduling, communication, resource management, and library services with ease. The integrated Financial Accounting modules facilitate invoicing and online payment management. With the Degree Audit module, students can stay aligned with their learning goals, while the Graduation and Alumni modules promote ongoing alumni engagement. Additionally, our latest AI module integrates across all features, enabling instant, data-driven interactions.

For me, I'm going to try to salvage and save as many books from them as possible. There's a place called The Book Thing in Baltimore - free books, just can't resell. I'm going to load up on as many history and banned books as possible since the burnings won't be far behind.

There have also been the reports of a national organization (blanking on what it's called) removing historical artifacts that make white America look bad, as well as Colonial Williamsburg removing links on their Revolutionary War page that acknowledges the impact on marginalized community.

What are other steps are you taking?

Does this mean I'm just going to have to drop out of my program mid year because I can't afford it? I heard his policies don't come into effect after 2029 really but still need some verification. Please in a bulleted list tho because paragraphs drive me nuts. (Even though I typed one lol).

What conflict resolution tools do you use for K-5?

My team at Comet Cadets has developed a free SEL and conflict resolution framework for K-5 classrooms. Students role-play as Cadets who go on missions to Outer (and Inner) Space to learn about their feelings and needs, how to communicate them with others, and how to resolve conflict.

Right now we're trying to better understand how educators, like y'all, use these SEL tools in their classroom so that we can develop even more useful material for you.

Would you have a few minutes to share your thoughts in a quick survey? As a small thank you, you’ll be entered to win a $100 Amazon Gift Card—just in time for the holidays.

Im not entirely sure if this where this belongs, but HERE WE GO

I will preface this with; I am in no way blaming the teachers and im sorry if this turns into a emotionally charged mess

But I have decided I want to help reform the education system for the better. Not only is it pathetically inefficient, it leaves its mark on you

I still wake up at 4 am, despite being piss-tired and have trouble falling back asleep as im 'supposed to be doing something' - Back in high school, yeah! Now adays? Not so much, im struggling to even get a job

Now, onto the promised 'inefficiencies' - In my eyes, the education system is just a series of numbers and letters to brag to other countries about, my main proof being dedicated spanish class

We HAD to be taught it, no one wanted to and it was understood to just be a part of the system. I scored terrible cause I barely tried. Others didnt try, at all and we all passed. This isnt even like, 'oh they're freshmen' no, we were on our way to becoming Seniors' the next year

other inefficiencies, include the 'Zero Tolerance' policy, of which personally effected me (yay) - Not giving teachers the time and money they deserve for being teachers thus leading to burnt out husks like the students

Expecting too much in too little a time. A kid who is really great at one thing at age five doesnt mean they'll be really great at it, age 19. Or vice versa

K-5, atleast when I experienced it, was glorified daycare with a mix of common sense thrown in. The only thing I actually learned was multiplication and division.

Alot of this, sounds pretty tame or inconsequential, and thats the problem. Its not just one problem that can be tackled. Its a mess of things going wrong either due to personal problems, preferences, or goverment red tape

Im not gonna just flail my arms and pout though, I have some solutions

Monthly/Bi-Monthly/Quarterly teaching (and 'open-end' learning)

This one is oddly specific, but hear me out. Everyone learns in different ways, so this one is meant to account for that. You have your planning ahead of time so those who speed away arent punished / have to wait for everyone else.

While those that need a bit of extra help can use the past for reference material. Though there's a bit more to this idea

What I imagine, in a dream scenario is one topic, three class rooms. Lets saaay... Science. Its a nice blend of english and math

One classroom is the normal 'everyday' classroom we all know. Another, is more direct. The 'lab' as some might call it. Some people are very textile learners.

The last leans a bit more into the grain, to say. And Im not sure how to explain it but I can give a example

During one assigment we were taught to explain the water cycle, and no matter how I put it, it sounded like I was giving a business presentation. So I turned it into a story, about 'Jim the Raindrop' - even referencing other lessons.

That is what the third classroom would be. Those who think a bit outside the box

Again, perfect world dream here speaking but unlikely to happen; Your allowed to leave the class room and go to a different one of these three if you feel it might help you better.

I also understand this is going to put a odd strain on teachers, due to some people being slower than the rest, others being faster and thus having answers to different tests to grade. If your particularly unlucky and have a class chock-full of fast folk you'll have alot of tests.

I got a solution to that, too!

The teachers all grade them, yes but also, there would be a college-grade professor to reference. So if a teacher doesnt know something, or their overworked they can reference the professor

This also allows students to get a taste of college. I know some teachers will have students grade paper work, which I can also see working but requires a bit more handling, I might be wrong

Though one person covering three people may be too much, so I also propose that the kids who actively like a subject can be the ones who help the teacher out.

I understand this is a swift way to make a 'teachers pet' problem, Which will be pointed out in my next 'problem' thing. Though if a student actively enjoys doing English, and is going to write you a 150 word story on everything you can fix

Then let em. They're enjoying themselves, letting you know how to improve, and giving a example in one blow

The next problem; The problem of peer-to-peer problems such as bullying, or public exile

School, in of itself, is a way to make connections, friends, and all that stuff.

So there is no way to 'fix' the problem of bullying, public exile, or whatever. Though we can try to mitigate it.

I propose two solutions. The Anynomous Mailbox and, The Whiteboard

The Anon Mailbox, is a simple mailbox in various locations where you write something down and put it in. Simple, Done

Now I know humans, myself included, are very dumb so this will VERY swiftly not work. But I truthfully cant think of anything better of a way to report problems if you dont feel you can find safety in your teachers

The other solution, The Whiteboard

Have various white boards or tack boards or whatever across the school that students are free to mess with. Either it be just 'have a nice day' or a doodle their proud of, or a 'Hey, party at my place (Address)' or whatever. It gives a way to talk to people, without having to actually TALK to people

It also allows for groups to find one another easier. Such as "Hey I wanna run a dnd game, text (number) if you wanna join" or "Hey, I lost my soccer ball but I still wanna play. Anyone up for some?"

Theoretically this could also be used like the Anon Mailbox but people may start recognizing hand writing so, do that at your own peril.

Slightly askew; The Teachers Pet

This is from the above problem but, for those unfamiliar, a 'teachers pet' is someone the public labels as a giant nerd and suck-up to the teacher.

Im hoping the fact im basically trying to re-write the entire idea of a school will eliminate this problem.

There is no real way to 'fix' the public eye. So, I hope with all my heart that if the schooling system does get fixed. Its in a way that doesnt make more problems

-

I would put a ending, conclusion here but I dont know what to say.

What method of teaching do you think is the best?

This is for a school project.

What method of teaching do you believe suits you and your classmates the best? How do the teachers teach in your school? Is it with a white board, with presentations, with lectures (etc.)? Also (unless you don't want to) please write what country you are from and in which grade you are going. Thank you!

AP Exams in Sweden

Hey everyone,

I’m currently an exchange student in Stockholm, Sweden, and I’m planning to take some AP classes online. One major issue I’m facing is finding a testing center here in Sweden to take the AP exams. The deadline to register is in 11 days, so I’m running out of time!

Has anyone taken AP exams in Sweden, or does anyone know where I might find a testing center that allows external students to register? I’d appreciate any tips or advice on how to go about this, especially if there are specific schools or centers in Stockholm that might offer AP testing.

Thanks so much in advance for any help!

We need to change our hours

If 40 hours a week is the minimum,

would you rather work 10 hour shifts, 4 days a week or 8 hour shifts, 5 days a week?

I would much rather spend an extra two hours at work everyday if that meant I can work one less day during the week.

admission testing for private schools??

I am aware of some public charter schools that accept a very small percentage of applicants and part of admission is testing. The schools are considered to be for "gifted students".

I am wondering, is it a similar process to get accepted into a private elementary/high school also?? Or does it just depend on the school? Or can basically anyone attend if they pay the tuition?

Building a gamified learning app - How would you design the 'perfect' learning experience?

Hi everyone! I'm developing an Android app that turns learning into an interactive game - whether it's coding, languages, or any new subject. Think Duolingo meets RPG, but more flexible for different subjects.

Core features I'm planning: - Progressive difficulty levels for each topic - Real-world examples and practical applications - Interactive quizzes with immediate feedback - Global leaderboard system

What I'd love to know from you: 1. What makes learning "stick" for you? 2. What gaming elements have you found most motivating in educational apps? (Streaks? Achievements? Social features?) 3. For those who've used apps like Duolingo/Codecademy - what do you wish they did differently? 4. How important is real-world application vs. theoretical knowledge in your learning journey?

I believe learning becomes more effective when it's broken down into manageable chunks with constant feedback and practical application. But I'd love to hear your learning approaches and what would make you excited to open a learning app daily.

Edit: I'm particularly interested in hearing from both educators and self-learners!"

Realistically, which degree would be best suited to careers such as Support Teacher, Community Learning, Art Therapist, Mental Health or Learning Difficulties (Adults or Children) Support Worker

Currently I am thinking of the following, I want to know which of these would be most likely to be an asset to me in getting myself into any of the above fields. I am aware that some of these require additional education after my first degree such as a specialised Art Therapist course or possibly a teaching course for becoming a support teacher? I'm not sure.

- Social Work (I don't do well in high-stress real life situations so the actual role Social Worker would not be a good fit, but if this could lead into any of the above careers mentioned that would be perfect since it covers a wide range of subjects related to a lot of what I am hoping to get into)

- Psychology (I do, however, do well in high-stress academic situations so I would be able to handle a degree in some form of psychology, and would be able to start at year 2 from previous learning. However, I have heard that Psychology is not useful in the real world unless you do further studies afterwards, so i'm not sure.)

- Education (Primary level probably, However I don't want to be a teacher, I am interested in becoming a support teacher because I am interested in supporting children with learning difficulties or physical disabilities. I currently work with children part time who have learning difficulties, and it's a rewarding and enjoyable job)

- Community Learning and Development (No clue how useful this would be since it's not a widely recognised degree, and I would rather choose an alternative path that could also lead into this kind of work, as I have been on the learners side of CLD and it helped me get my life to the point it is now, I want to be able to do that for other people)

- Counselling (As I have said of other degrees, I don't want to do the specific counsellor or therapist role, I have been and still am the "therapist" friend and it is mentally draining and I know for a fact I would not handle that at all as a full time job, but again if this could lead me into any of the careers in the title I will consider it)

- Childhood practice (This would allow me to continue in my current work which I do enjoy, but would it help towards any of the other jobs I could see myself doing?)

- Any other degree you think would be good for what I'm aiming for, I'm super confused about what would be a good path, I feel like if I complete a degree I would need to be sure its an asset rather than a waste of time, so any advice would be helpful.

Hello! It would be greatly appreciated if you could do my quick questionnaire :)

Hello! I'm doing a major work project on how the invisibility of intersex persons in contemporary Western society perpetuates that invisibility, and it would be greatly appreciated if you would take the time to do my form. All answers are anonymous and will be used for research purposes only.

Reformed U.S. High School Graduation Required Credits

I'm a high school senior, future educator, and am seeking feedback regarding the good and bad of this concept I constructed. I made this with the hope of obtaining greater education equality compared to the huge differences that currently exist between states. Please let me know your thoughts!

Proposed Federal Standard:

  • 4 Social Studies
  • 4 English
  • 3 Science
  • 3 Mathematics
  • 2 Life Skills
  • 2 World Language
  • 1 Arts
  • 1 Athletics
  • 4 Elective
  • 24 Credits Total

Academic Base: The average required credits by most universities serves as the foundation which consists of 4 English, 3 Social Studies, 3 Science, 3 Mathematics, and 2 World Language credits.

Social Studies: Increased from 3 to 4 credits due to the critical lack of informed citizenship within many real life applicable social studies topics among the US population.

Arts & Athletics: Both are 1 credit each to solidify teacher employment and funding to programs typically considered more leisure based and less academic than other subjects.

Life Skills: New subject including physical, mental, and social health alongside financial, career, and home wellness. 2 credits required, 1 in 9th grade covering "High School Life Prep" and 1 in 12th grade covering "Adult Life Prep" with available electives throughout high school.

Electives: Class choices based on individual student interests throughout all 8 standard subjects. The amount of elective credits available depends on the school size and schedule type, generally 4 with 6 periods, 8 with 7 periods, or 12 with an 8 period A|B day schedule.

Course Requirements: Revised within each subject for a greater real life focus. For example, Social Studies prioritizing Government & Economics over History and Mathematics prioritizing Statistics & Computer Science over Algebra and Geometry.

State Flexibility: Rural and or smaller schools with less access to say World Language, Life Skills, or specific course teachers may have credit requirements altered or waived on a case by case basis.

need help

i was born in latvia but came to the uk as a baby. i got raised there and lived there ever since. now im 14, and i really hate living in the uk. i visit latvia very regularly and it feels homely to me. my mum proposed to me recently that i can move to latvia with my grandma who already lives there when i finish school (year 11), but since the school system is different there she said id have to sit 11th or/and 12th grade in latvia. when my dad found out about the idea, he said that i would be put into 9th grade because in latvia, apparently, you go straight to uni after you finish school rather than the 2 years of sixth form in the uk so id be put 2 years back in school. he also said if i went to latvia and sat a few years of school there since i only have 2 years to learn the latvian language, my native is russian, before i supposedly can go back to latvia that i wouldnt pass any exams there and end up homeless or something like that. would this move really ruin my future jobs?

Why is my child so behind academically despite having “normal” test scores?

Homeschooling started with the pandemic. My kid lost the last half of kindergarten, and couldn’t focus online when they shifted him there. After that summer, I homeschooled for first grade. He continued for another quarter of second grade, just to ensure they weren’t going to be sending kids home that fall again.

He did fairly well, his test scores coming back to school were slightly above average for a second grader. Then the admins at that school refused to step in and stop bullying, and even suspending my son for standing up for himself. After that we switched schools. He did really well for a new kid in a new school, and this is coming into 5th grade (where elementary ends after 6th grade in this district). His test scores were mostly average, possibly slightly below in reading and math. Nothing too worrisome I thought.

Then after fall break, my son has a mental health meltdown. Refuses to speak about what’s going on, just says he “hates school.” (Obviously dad and I get him a therapist that he’s seeing now.) We decide to switch back to homeschooling because his mental health is what’s most important. I don’t know if he had thought 5th grade homeschooling would be as easy as 1st grade homeschooling, but he is really struggling.

I spoke to his father and he is confused as well because his test scores say he’s pretty average. Dad thought maybe he was dragging his feet and playing it up a bit, but I explained no I saw him truly struggling to grasp concepts and refusing to even attempt to think on what the answer might be when he gets a problem wrong. If he doesn’t understand something immediately, he gets frustrated and just guesses at an answer to get it over with rather than actually thinking and trying. He has some attention issues (diagnosed), but his teachers never requested a special academic program for him or anything.

I don’t understand how his test scores in school reflect what they do. I feel like I’ve been lied to an cheated. Do they do tests in groups with notes or something? This 5th grader does not utilize proper capitalization, punctuate the ends of sentences. He doesn’t understand how commas, quotations, apostrophes, and colons work. His math comprehension should be at the point where he is able to preform certain pre-algebra and geometry problems with relative ease, but he is still struggling on the basics of multiplication and division. There is no way this is “average” comprehension, when the curriculums for elementary school show that he should have been finalizing these core concepts over the past few years.

Reorientation

Hello everyone,

I am currently in a gap year after obtaining a degree in Economic and Social Administration, HR option. However, the field of human resources does not fascinate me, and I now wish to reorient myself towards teaching French as a foreign language (FLE).

My goal would be to enter a master's degree, even if the access conditions are very strict, and I would prefer to avoid repeating three years of the bachelor's degree. I was unable to take didactic courses at university, but I have a literary baccalaureate and, in a week, I will begin civic service in the field of education.

Do you have any advice to help me succeed in this transition and strengthen my FLE file? Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you so much !

Is this acceptable? It's the only way teachers in our local school district can make education work

Here's how the 6 to 12th grade teachers at my local school district work around the lack of: 1. student attention span, 2. admin behavior support, and 3. parent connection:

  • The teacher displays the assignment and objectives on the board. It's also always available on Canvas. There are links to videos that explain the concepts
  • The teacher reminds the students that if they want to learn the concepts, they'll have to quiet down so they can hear. Very few pay any attention
  • The students who want to learn sit in front and the teachers give them the lesson using their regular voice
  • Students in the back 2/3rds or more of the class just do as they please. Objects fly across the room. The noise level makes it difficult for anyone to hear. Many have Airpods in their ears
  • There is a no phone policy, but phones are out. It wouldn't do any good to say anything because the students who are on their phones are the quieter ones and admin doesn't have any plan for supporting the phone policy - other than to nonrenew new teachers for allowing it
  • Teachers spend a lot of non-class time contacting parents to warn them that their child isn't passing - as is required
  • Teachers spend a lot of non-class time documenting those contacts, the lack of replies, student behavior, and non-attendance. No one looks at the data unless a parent contacts the principal
  • It takes a lot of time to prepare each lesson in a way that can be done independently - which makes it available for any students/parents who suddenly care and want to catch up (practically zero). However, once done, they're good for a couple of years
  • Since the lessons are available online, with videos, students who can't stand the noise and chaos are absent a lot
  • The students in the front get good grades
  • The students in the back will still pass - because teachers are told they must or else (they will face considerable harassment from parents and administrators)
  • Chronic absenteeism is through the roof, yet no one cares
  • Test scores show that 44% are prepared for college (functionally literate)
  • Our graduation rate is 93%
  • Our state dept of education has never questioned our very low test score, low attendance rate, and our high graduation rate. There is no oversight of state, county, or district education administrators. They are rarely any good at their overpaid positions
  • No one, except some of the frontline staff, cares - yet they are the ones scapegoated if anyone bothers to raise a concern

15-Year-Old Here, Sickened by How Disrespectful Some Kids My Age Are Towards Teachers and Learning

I’m 15, born in 2009, and I keep hearing stories about teachers quitting because students my age are so disrespectful – some even assault teachers. These kids apparently don’t care about learning at all; I’ve heard that many have reading levels as low as 1st grade by the time they’re in 7th grade. Honestly, I’m shocked and ashamed.

Back in 5th grade, I already had a 9th-grade reading level. COVID hit when I was in 5th grade, and I missed my elementary graduation. Doing 6th grade online was a mess for me – I completely failed because I didn’t understand the material and was barely logging on. The cops even showed up at my house because I wasn’t attending. I was eventually forced back to in-person school and stayed there for a while, but I went back to online school near the end of 8th grade and I’m still in online school now in 10th grade.

I have ADHD and dyslexia, so learning and focusing have always been challenges for me, but I still make the effort to read and write. Growing up, I was left alone a lot and spent tons of time online. My parents didn’t really supervise me or push me to succeed, yet I still managed to keep my respect for adults and stay focused on learning. I see other kids my age who were raised similarly, yet they act completely different.

People keep saying it’s “because of COVID,” and I get that it was hard on everyone. But that excuse only goes so far. I know a lot of kids had a rough time with online school, but that doesn’t explain why so many now treat their teachers horribly or why they seem completely uninterested in basic skills like reading and writing.

Since I’m in online school, I don’t know for sure if things are really as bad as I’ve been hearing. Maybe it’s not this extreme everywhere, but from what I’ve heard, it’s happening enough that it’s driving teachers away. It’s embarrassing to think this is how my generation is being seen by adults.

I’ve mostly seen adults talk about this problem, so I wanted to share my perspective as someone actually in this age group. I’m honestly disgusted by how some kids are reportedly treating adults and how little respect they have for learning. Is anyone else my age feeling this way? Or am I out of touch with what’s going on because of online school?
