After being sent to a newly formed alt program for a semester, I'm struggling a bit with the Edmentum Plato program.
A little background - I was a pretty decent student. I was never much for homework, but my quiz and test scores were almost all A's with a few B's mixed in. Point is I was always a good note and test taker.
Now keep in mind, this is only after my first day of using the system, and maybe its something I just need to get used to. But with so few reviews (that I could find) and the responses of youtube commenters being less than stellar, I was hoping to find anyone who's either used it or has any experience with it, and ask if any what tips or advice can be given. I'll also try and detail a little bit about my first impressions, in case anyone is awake the night before their first day trying to find anything they can about what this program is like :)
Also worth noting, as I'm currently on track to graduate with more than enough credits, I'm not worried about running through as many courses as possible. I'm just trying not to fall so far behind I do have a problem.
Now, as it was my first day, and first time, in an alt class most of the people there already knew the basics. Most had either used this same system, or a similar one. Thus, the instructor kind of jumped right in without much explanation, not that anyone else seemed to need it. Terms like master tests and pretests were thrown around as I didn't really understand the whole picture.
After using it for a little bit, things started to make more sense. A "tutorial" is the actual lesson itself, which initially threw me as they all started with a "Edmentum" video. My first tutorial had a total 33 slides with various tasks mixed in. The second realization was the "Master tests", which are simply the review of the things you just went over. Slightly misnamed if you ask me.
In any case, the instructor wanted us to at least finish a master test in about 45 minutes. Everyone else seemed to get by just fine, so I'm sure im missing a little something. It seemed that the tasks that asked for me to explain something didn't need to be as detailed as I was making them. Maybe it's something that comes with a bit of experience.
Anyway, if anyone could give their two cents and maybe a few pointers, it would be greatly appreciated. Plato seems like it could be really beneficial, given that someone knows how to use it. Thanks for reading all of that, and thank you in advance
