g.e.d vs hs diploma

Isn't a G.E.D almost the same as a high school diploma? I just dropped out of high school and going to start work around late October. I want at least my G.E.D so I plan on getting it some time next year. Going to be working renovation on mainly Starbucks and other joints. Good pay and good hours. I dropped out because my grades were pretty terrible junior year and I absolutely hate High School. That and because i'm guaranteed this job and can't do it with school. I'll be making 12/hr probably more once I get more experienced with renovation. Really, I wont make anymore if I had a high school diploma? Right? Also, I don't have any bills whatsoever so when I start work in October i'm going to save like a mad man. My family completely understands why I dropped out but I have a lot of friends and some cousins bugging me about it. Did I make the right choice? Lives so stressful after school I swear. (I'm 17 btw should be a senior if I didn't drop out).
