Our daughter came home from her first day of school with a backpack full of school supplies her teacher says they won't actually need. The list said binders, but this teacher wants folders. Those glittery binders were already decorated, so they can't go back to the store. A lot of art supplies came home too -- probably $25 worth in all.
Our daughter goes to a Title I school, so I know a lot of families are struggling to make ends meet. I think it's awful that those parents were asked to spend over $100 on supplies, only to have a lot of them sent back home. A few minutes checking that list before it went out to parents would have saved those parents $500 collectively, and lots of frustration at tracking down those items in our rural area.
