Conceptual vs. Equational Courses
I have take various types of classes at Baruch Colleges. I find that there are two types of courses, conceptual and equational. These two types of classes are different.
Conceptual classes are classes are based on definitions and important terms. Liberal arts are usually conceptual. Foreign languages are based on grammatical rules. Besides business classes, I have to take liberal arts classes. Logic class is based on these fallacies and proofs. Some business are conceptual, especially marketing and CIS.
Equational classes are classes are based on equations. Calculus, Accounting, Finance, Real Estate, and Statistics are classes that based on equations. These classes are complicated due to the fact as one have to know various equations in these courses. The only way I can do well is by going to tutoring and/or getting a laid-back professor.
There are classes are the mixed. Certain sciences and economics are mix. Earth science and economics are mixed. These classes have both equations and concepts. Microeconomics is graph-heavy while macroeconomics is equation- and concept-based.

Looking to take Electronic & Electrical Engineering at uni. What other subjects should I consider?taking this year? (Scotland)
So this year I am taking Higher History, Higher Computing Science, Higher Chemistry, Higher Maths and Higher English.
I am staying till 6th year to get higher physics (Got an A in National 5 but since we pick our subjects before we get our results, my teacher told me i would fail so I didn't take it).
I am aiming for Strathclyde, so I am curious of what other subjects would help me with Electronic & Electrical Engineering? I was thinking Advanced higher maths would help.
(We are only aloud to take 4 subjects, or 3 advanced highers)
Any replies are appreciated

Raising money for LGBT+ book donations for a library - http://ift.tt/2DMb3JW
Sofia University (located in Sofia Bulgaria) is not the most queer-friendly space for young college students. As a matter of fact, creating a LGBT+ friendly club that raises awareness of homophobia faced major difficulties. A huge problem is that it's difficult to create a safe space for queer college students to hang out together and communicate.
Another problem is that the college library doesn't have any queer-friendly books that talk about this specific topic and the staff doesn't want to buy such literature themselves, yet they always accept book donations. So we decided to raise some money to buy essential LGBT+ books and donate them to the library so that queer students can read more on the subject.
Our next step would be to create a LGBT+ inclusive book club!

What line should I go?
I actually want to be an engineer. I’m from Norway and we have all kind of educations. It’s a lot of them and I don’t know what to pick. I’m on 10th grade now and we have A LOT of options for high school. We have the one line called “elektrofag med studiekompetanse.” That’s basically standard education, but with practical learning. You can get practical and theoretical learning from that line. I could of course just continue with theoretical learning, but I don’t know if anyone seeks someone with just practical learning. By the way, “elektrofag med studiokompetanse” need you to have really high grades (mostly Bs and up from there.) My father said my grades were good enough to get that kind of education. What would you suggest? Should I go this line or should I just go the “ordinary” line?

My highschool doesn't offer physics. What do I do?
I'm currently a freshman in highschool but was looking through the classes my school offers and it turns out we don't have a physics class (which I planned on taking before finding out we didn't have one). I was planning on starting the class when It would be open to me (I expected senior year to be that year) but now I'm concerned about what I should do. Am I just out of luck or is there a way for me to take classes in the subject without paying money. I'm broke so paying for classes is not an option.

DEBATE: Sad Truth About Strict Teachers Who Had Dark Side Within.
Not all strict teachers produce outstanding, well-disciplined and smart students. There are no such thing as perfect teachers. They can't be perfect like Jesus Christ who is a perfect Teacher to His adopted Children of God.
There is a major problem with them. They can slowly become mean and abusive over time. For example, a student who does not follow the rule will have a strict teacher scare/intimidate/fear him/her, they would get stressed and anxious. This would lead to poor performarance to teachers who can be strict over time.
Strict teachers may be likely to be stressed, face more consequences, obstacles, challenges and have health problems over time in the future. (for example, strict(er) teachers giving students too much homework after failing to follow the instructions or rules).
What would it happen to my homeroom teacher?

For the love of god change the system.
Looking at the education system of today is honestly disappointing. I myself, am a student. I look around my school and see a lot of uneducated people. They aren't stupid because it's the best option, they're stupid because they want to be. You have those students who desire to learn and grow into a meaningful member of society, but you also have the other 90% of students who just want it over with. My desire to learn is slowly fading, and that desire is already gone from many other students, it usually leaves by middle school. So why. Why does it have to be this way? Something is telling me to just quit but I'm still going because I know I'm not gonna go anywhere without school, but most of the things we learn are useless, and it's probably the thing that is sucking the souls out of today's youth. Please. We need to make a change to something in North America, and anywhere else that has a bad education system. I just don't know what I can do. Who here thinks the system we have today is completely fair?

Are there any online colleges or universities?
So when i was in korea couple of months ago I noticed a lot of people there attended online colleges or universities which lasted from 2 to 4 years. My girlfriend at the time had won a college scholarship and was studying psychology. And from what i heard they were quite recognizable. I was wondering are there any simillar online colleges or universities for english speakers that their degrees are widely recognized?

Oxford University extends time for maths to help women
In order to close the gender gap, Oxford is experimenting with giving women more time during exams. The theory is that women stress over time more than men. That's pretty sexist IMO and if they believe that time shouldn't be a constraint, then remove the time constraint for everyone taking the exams.

Hello, I want to enroll in a public school in the USA. I need advice
Hello r/education!
I am a 16 year old who recently finished 9th grade in Costa Rica, where I have lived most of my life. Even though I live there, I posses dual citizenship since my mom is American.
I would like to move to the USA and study in a public school in New Hampshire. I would like to know what thr process would be for me to enroll, what grade I would be placed on, and how that would be determined.
Do you have the answers?

So my parents are pretty clueless about this sort of thing.
I'm considering studying in a land down under for my Master's Degree in IT, but I've never coded before in my life or done anything in IT. How impossible would this be? I have zero certifications and next to zero experience.
Don't you typically get an undergraduate degree in something and then pursue the Masters in that same field?

Need help: choosing online college
Ok guys. Here's my situation. I'll try to make this short. I am 30 years old and I have been promoted to the highest level of of my educational competence which unfortunately is only a high school diploma. I have been working in retail for the past 10 years and I have decided it is not what I want to do with the rest of my life. I am currently a store manager, and my day to day life includes a lot of HR responsibilities. The HR stuff is the highlight of my day, the customers and sales goals are not. I have had the realization to move forward into an HR career, I need a degree. I am looking for help because I don't even know where to start. As an adult going back to school, the options are endless and scary. Here are my questions and if anyone could help me answer any of them I would appreciate it. 1. What are some schools that are online only that aren't scammy? (for lack of better word) 2. Where can I find actual information about grants that are FOR adults? 3. Are there any schools that will actually turn some of my working experience into credits? 4. Does anyone have any advice/tips/tricks?
I am in retail after all so I don't have the financial means to go with an expensive program.
Any and all help is welcome. Thanks fellow redditors.

Bad teacher, hopeless students,no time left
One of my friends is in the worst class in school, at least that is what she says.I never met her teacher but I used to be in a class with terrible teacher and I know how much that can drag your grades down. Considering that I'm a top set students and that I'm a point where I have been watching the teacher try to teach things I know of (basically bored to death), should I ask to get moved down for a week or two to the other class?
My friend might be failing maths, but I did start teaching her and she has been getting things pretty fast. I have also seen her try maths questions that I gave her for a long time, and not get them but that is ok because next to no one in my set understands them either.

1st test consists subjects in first and sophomore year grammar and literature test 40 questions social sciences 20 questions math 40 questions science 20 questions and you have 1 min for each question. 40+40+20+20=120 minutes.
2nd test (junior and senior year) if u pursue ur career on scientific branches: math-science (40 question each) if linguistic branches: literature and grammar (40 questions), social (40 questions) if equally-weighed (law, management): math, grammar and literature, social. you have 1 to 2 mins for each question.
4 mistakes deletes your 1 correct answer.
do you think this is appropriate for a good entrance system?

We need to value our Teachers
A great teacher will impact their students lives more than anything else can. The public school system does not value it's teachers enough. A great teacher will be an expert in the field that they teach. Unfortunately teachers are not permitted to teach their curriculum to the best of their capability but are rather shackled down to teach how the "core" wants them to. Forced to do menial labor and to pass that labor on to the children, assessing them every step of the way. The board of education loves assessments. The schooling mindset has become a Borg mindset which enforces all people to teach and learn the same way as the collective. The lack of freedom for teachers have turned students into sheep. Most "strait A" students become so by blindly doing assignments without thinking to much for themselves; these students will move on to become great successes in life. Other students might use critical thinking skills in other parts of their life and recognize the unimportance of doing a standard worksheet. The system will label them as lazy or unintelligent (uncooperative) and set them behind forcing them to play an endless game of "catch-up work." These students will move on to a difficult life, because of their attitude towards paperwork between the ages of 14-17, they might not go to college or get a career suited for them. A great teacher will be able to adjust the standard teaching methods permitted by the state enough to properly teach all their students, but a good teacher will not. It's an important part of the job for a teacher to adjust their curriculum throughout the school year. Good teachers often become teachers, but great teachers can make far much more money doing something else with their expertise in the field.

For a study: Dear US-Educators. Which are the best sites to find Curriculums for teaching (physics) in or outside your state
Hello fellow educators!
I am a physics teacher from Bavaria. Currently i am working on a study in which i wanna compare bavarian and us standards regarding teaching electricity and magnetism.
Already i found many sites and material. But what i lack is a direction. Apparently i don't understand the US education enough to find what i need.
That's why i write here.
We in Bavaria have a site, hosted by the government, in which we can type in the grade and then we get an overview of all the topics we should teach in that grade. It's called "Lehrplan". I think english correspondence is Curriculum, but mostly i find college Curriculums in my searches and not for K12.
Do you know a site in the US (any state) that compares to that?
Or what pages do you turn to if you wanna know what to teach your class?
Thank you very much! So Long Alyat

How do you guys (teachers and students alike) feel about the College Board?
As a high school student, I know that a lot of us despise the College Board for its high testing fees, control over our future with APs and SATs, etc. However, I do have to admit that AP classes offer opportunities for learning more rigorous materials that I may not have a chance to learn otherwise. I was wondering on what are your thoughts on the “nonprofit” organization as a whole. What are some alternatives to the current system of testing/college application? Is there a better way to quantify/qualify students’ readiness on a national level?

Did you like going to boarding school?
So we are considering sending our future kids to a prep boarding school where they would have access to an amazing education that would feed into Ivy League Schools. Anytime we bring up this idea we only get negative responses. People basically take the attitude that we are going to be cold unfeeling parents and that they couldn't imagine sending their kids away.
My question is for those who attended boarding schools. Did you like your experience? Did it prepare you and help you get into an amazing college? Was the education really top notch? Or did you hate it and resent your parents for sending you?

Whats the education system like in US and canada?
Im from Montenegro , which is barely heard of , and im looking for scholarships that would get me in America but im hitting a couple of small barriers that i feel would be best understood if the explanation came from You guys.
Here we have 9 years of Primary School followed by 4 years in High School and then comes the University which lasts from 2-6 years depending which you choose so im wondering how this is translated to the American system, how many years are there what are they called etc.
Secondly, I dont quite know how to convert my grades to Your system. Here theres a scale of 1-5 with everything inbetween. For e.g my average score is 3.7/5.0 (but grading here is a joke in general, ive had a 2/5 from English even though I scored 12th at the national competition, 15th at the European competition etc. etc. ... this is me trying to defend what i believe is a horrible score... ay). From my understanding there are several ways of calculating a GPA over there, would really appreciate if someone explained it.
Thank You if You made it this far, i know its not the most entertaining topic and that my score is somewhat off-putting but im working on it

Why is ACT/SAT made so inaccessible?
It seems like it's just such a pain to start, and the whole thing seems to lack any hard information. There's no full proof way of getting better at it and it's just so vague. Or maybe I'm just not looking hard enough?
