What is the most effective content/material in improving your intellect and critical thinking?

I would just like to read everyone's opinions. I'm sure there are a lot of variables as each individual would respond differently to different methods of education. ie: visual or auditory. Please be specific with responses for example if you say researching politics include what way you research politics, such as watching political debates or if you respond with literature, what subjects do you read about and why?
