Hi so one of my best friends just announced that she is going to go to boarding school next year (year 11). I googled the school (Pymble girls college in Sydney) and it’s going to cost her nearly $60,000 a year to board and go to school without including uniform extracurricular activities or anything like that. We live in a pretty good town, it has 9 high schools and we currently go to a pretty good private school here.
So it got me thinking, why do people decide to go to these types of schools? My friend has 4 older brothers who have all graduated from our current school and are all studying medicine (which is what she wants to do). I know this school is probably out of the world with academics and teachers. Is there any disadvantages for these types of schools? Do many people send there child there from kindergarten to year 12?
I understand why people go to these very elite private schools, obviously the education is top notch and being able to say you went to this school would provide very good references etc. Is it all for the name or are there other advantages? My best friend hasn’t really talked to me much about why she wants to go, she just said there’s something about boarding school that’s always been interesting. Are all the private girls schools in Sydney similar or are there any major differences?
