Using formative assessments to improve forming of answers on tests by (young) students (history)

I'm looking for literature, articles and scientific sources to base a small research on.

the subject of the research is how to improve the ability of my students to formulate answers correctly on (history) tests.

I'm having a hard time finding the right sources to work with apart from blogs typing up lists of how to answer a quest on a test correctly.

Do people know of any research, literature or article that touches on this subject?
