Question about bilingual education in a foreign country

Hello, I was wondering if anyone here has been in a similar situation and can provide advice or experiences.

I am looking to move and send our young children to school in a foreign country (wife’s native country). The international/American schools there are way out of our budget, but many of them offer a “bilingual” program which follows local education standards with a mixture of English and the local language that we can afford.

My question is in regards to these bilingual programs which don’t necessarily follow the American education system and kids’ readiness/eligibility/success in applying and attending an American university when the time comes.

Anyone here have experience like this or know anyone who has had their kids transition from overseas primary/secondary schooling into an American college or university?
