Seeking Advice

Hello everyone. I am a second year out high school Mathematics teacher who came across an unexpected situation.

During lunch while I was out in the playground, I noticed a group of boys who were playing soccer on the volleyball courts, which is against the school rules. I reminded the boys to move to the soccer field but they ignored me and carried on. Moments after, one of the boys kicked the ball under a demountable building and said "It's the school's ball so fuck it. Leave it there." I asked that specific boy to retrieve the ball. He initially avoided/ignored me but when I asked him the second time, he replied with "I don't care. It's the school's and I don't want dirt on me. Get someone else to do it."

I dealt with the student personally after by trying to have a conversation about the situation. He however, did not show any signs of remorse. He was continually carrying about how school property should be better cared by the teachers and it was not his job since he did not want himself to get dirty.

I personally found this to be unbelievably disrepsectful and irresponsible. I have been thinking about other ways to come around to this student but my emotions are really getting to me. Could I get some advice on how I could deal with this student without escalating confrontation?

Thank you in advance.
