I joined the education field as someone who hated going to school and wanted to make a difference somehow. I was very interested in alternative schools and unschooling.
I'm currently teaching in an alternative school. I think it's a good opportunity to see how alternative schools can work but I've been having a lot of trouble here and generally feel unhappy and uncomfortable.
I have an opportunity to work in an IB school, it pays better, it's less hours and less grades to teach. But if I sign up, I'll probably have to stick with it for at least a year, if not two.
I have a background in math and statistics. I was thinking maybe I could get a master's and find a path in research and policy and make a better difference that way.
Would I be wasting my time locking myself in to teaching for another 1-2 years? Should I get a master's degree instead and see if I can find more impactful work in education?
