Prior to reading my post, my apologies if I sound like a whiny student. I understand that there are numerous problems that take priority, but I am trying to speak for many other students who may not see a problem in their lives yet.
Hello, I am a sophomore Mechanical Engineering student who got sent home early from my study abroad semester due to the Coronavirus explosion. As most students across the globe seem to be doing now, my classes have been moved online. Given the spontaneous and dire nature of the past couple of weeks that we have all been experiencing, my family and I have been frantically trying to prepare ourselves for whatever the next couple of months has in store. As a result, it has been insanely difficult to stay focused on my classes when we should all be prioritizing our survival.
My professors don't seem too concerned about the situation on the students' side, and seemingly want to get their curriculum over with as fast as possible; all of my professors are cramming about 2 months' worth of content into a month left (we resume classes next Monday, through the 30th of April). I would like to assume that they're also under an immense amount of pressure from their administration. My biggest fear is that the students (not just me, or my classmates, but globally) are going to take the fall and suffer tremendously if we continue on this path.
I know that my education is a rather trivial matter in times like these, but I would much rather be able to put my family and myself in a position to get through the coming struggles than be bulldozed (which happens frequently as a college student) by my university. Essentially, many others and I foresee this situation getting much worse, and the educational system not adapting as it should, and I wonder if there is anything that I can do to potentially avoid getting the much shorter end of the stick. Thank you!
TL;DR: In a rapidly changing world, I don't want to fall victim to my school and professors failing to adapt and continuing to pulverize the students like everything is normal; I would rather focus on the wellbeing of myself and my family. How should I approach the oncoming future?
