Day 3 of Homeschool Science: Engineering and Energy - Can you protect an egg?
Egg drop challenge Now that we have learned a little bit about the two majoy types of energy, kinetic and potential, we will learn about how we can go between the two to try and save a raw egg (yes, preferrably a raw egg).
For this project you will need: You will need your recycling bin, tape, ziplock bags, and raw eggs! Older students will have the extra challenge of completing the egg drop with just toothpicks and 3 feet of tape. You can also printout our egg drop engineering lab book if you want additional resources (I attached it here for you as well as it being in your week 1 zip file)
- A few eggs per student
- A ziplock bag (to put the egg in to reduce mess)
- Your recycling bin -- For an added challenge you can use only popsicle sticks to save your egg! Or maybe just toothpicks (it can be done, I've had kids with a successfull drop three stories up with just toothpicks!!)
- A printout of the egg drop challenge booklet
This day 3 of our 6 weeks of homeschool kids science activities that we're creating for all the new homeschoolers affected by the Coronavirus school closures.
We run these daily at 11:30 here on our youtube channel and we have a Q&A afterwards for any questions you might have for your projects.
